I have painted this house many many times and I hope I will paint it many
more. Fate has gifted me to live here in Ireland, I have my time in a low marshy
landscape caught between two rivers, one with an anglicised name and the other
strangely anonymous. The ground is starting to soften and as the moon rises the
light disappears and more and more of my dander is in blackness, each step seen
in my mind’s eye imagining the slope the roughness. Now far from the road and
houses the smell of the dark earth is overwhelming. Once I would share this walk
with my little terrier and the blue metal of my Russian gun but both of these are
gone, others long left float in on my thoughts sometimes just to walk with me
in silence, but they all leave before I get to the style that leads to the road, this
beautiful long house still stands close to the salt deep anchorage of the great
dreadnoughts, but these too now are gone.
