Victoria J Dean
Victoria J. Dean (b. Belfast, 1980) is a photographic artist based in Northern Ireland. Her work has won awards internationally including in the LensCulture Emerging Talent Awards 2017, The Magenta Foundation’s Flash Forward 2013 and a recommendation in New York based PDN’s 30 Emerging Photographers to Watch for 2007. She received the Royal Ulster Academy Award for Outstanding Students on obtaining an MFA Photography with distinction from Ulster University in 2017, and was selected by Olivia Arthur (Magnum) and Anna Sparham (Curator, Museum of London) in Source Magazine’s 2017 Graduate Photography Online Selections. Dean has exhibited internationally including the Royal Hibernian Academy Annual Exhibition in Dublin, LensCulture Emerging Talent Exhibition, Klompching Gallery in New York, the Royal Ulster Academy Annual Exhibition in Belfast, the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London, Circulation(s) 2014: Festival de la Jeune Photographie Européenne in Paris, and Northern Ireland: 30 Years of Photography at Belfast Exposed and The Mac in 2013. Solo exhibitions have included RUA RED in Dublin, the Millennium Court Arts Centre in Portadown, and the Naughton Gallery at Queens University. Dean’s work is held in the Office of Public Works State Art Collection (Ireland), the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Collection, and a number of private collections in the UK and Ireland. Her first photobook, The Illusion of Purpose, was published in 2018 by Another Place Press.
